Let's Make a List

Let's make a list. A compiled list of pet peeves I have and of the things I can't stand. Let's just jump right into this, shall we?

1.) The words 'faggot' and 'spaz' being used as insults. Since when did this become acceptable? People throw these words around without being aware of their actual meanings. I heard my friend call someone a 'fag' a couple of weeks ago and I said 'You know that's really offensive, right?' and she said 'No, is it?'

2.) The word 'cunt'. I mean, it's just a horrible word. I might sound like my Nan, here, but it makes whoever says it instantly unattractive.

3.) People who are obsessed with Fifa. Oh. My. God. Having Fifa as your hobby is fine, you know, a quick hour of it to pass the time when you've got nothing else to do. But I know people who all they talk about is Fifa. They spend their lunch money on 'Fifa points' (whatever the fuck they are) and I
even know people who play it in class whenever they think the teacher isn't looking. It doesn't make them look cool, it makes them look sad and boring as fuck. (I could probably write a whole topic on this. But I won't, don't worry.)

4.) People who don't tidy up after themselves. I think this one's pretty self-explanatory, to be honest.

5.) Clingy couples. People who kiss while other people are eating lunch. I don't want to see that. You don't shit where you eat.

I think that's it for today. I'm probably going to make this into a series like the 'Resolution' posts, so we can all look forward to basking in some more of my hatred for man-kind. Again, thanks for reading and go follow me on all my social networking things so we can all share our hatred for everything with one another. Like a huge circle of hate. That's what they'll call us... I should go now.

Resolution: Chapter Two - The Concert

So on Saturday the 7th of February, I went to my first concert. I mean, I went to a festival in 2012, but I wouldn't class that as a 'proper' concert. At the festival, I was free to walk around, I could move in and out of the crowds as I pleased. (If you're not aware, I suffer from quite severe anxiety. Please see my 'Dealing with Panic Attacks' post if you're interested.) But I'm 17 years old and this was the first 'proper' concert I've been to.

I went to the Kerrang magazine tour at Leeds O2 Academy. I know the O2 Academy isn't a massive building, but this was a big step for me. My friend asked me the Saturday before, originally, believing it was only 2 bands performing - Don Broco and We Are the In Crowd. (I really suggest you check them out, by the way) I remembered my Resolution and I just said yes. Saying yes in the first place was the first step, but then the panic set it. I'd been suffering from quite a bad bug that week for a start but my anxiety, overall, was beginning to get the better of me.

But before I knew it, Friday came around and I decided to dive headfirst and agreed for my friend to enter a competition to meet Don Broco before the show - which we won! But then I learned there were going to be 3 more bands performing, 2 of which were heavy metal. This meant 2 things - 1. I had to spend more time there and 2. Mosh Pits.

Long story short, my friend assured me she wouldn't get me involved in the pits and I got there without having any major panic attacks. We got to the venue and 5, and were then taken into a dingy basement where we were told to wait for the band (who were the coolest people ever, here's a selection of photos):

(There are 4 members of the band, and I'm slightly gutted I missed one. But what can you do?)
So, afterwards, we were brought into the main venue. And, low and behold, I survived! I didn't suffer from a single panic attack and enjoyed it thoroughly. It just goes to show what can happen when you start saying 'yes' to things. For a whole week I was panicking about this, even waking up in the middle of the night because of it. And for what? I look back at last week now and can't help but feel a little stupid. Now I've done this, I feel like there's not much I can't do.

I'd never even heard of most of the bands I was going to see in just a week's time, if anything, this was something I had to do to prove to myself I'm not as useless as I was a year ago. That sounds a bit harsh on myself, but it's true. I was, pretty much, a useless friend to people. Never wanting to join them at concerts and parties. But now I'm a completely different person compared to what I was this time last year - and that's a good thing.

I feel like now's an appropriate time to promote the bands I went to see so;
Don Broco          We Are the In Crowd          Young Guns          Beartooth
Bury Tomorrow

Thanks for reading,

R.

Kingsman: Review

My Links:

Again, another amazing film. I first walked into the cinema not expecting much. Honestly, I was thinking 'Wow, another spy film. Probably another rip-off of James Bond'. But, apparently I was wrong. I know I'm probably going to be hunted down for saying this, but this was much better than any Bond film I've ever seen.

It managed to be hilarious and heartwarming within the space of 30 seconds. Something very few films have managed to do without the audience's emotional response seeming forced or false. The characters are presented in the ingenious way of immediately telling the audience that, yes, they are stereotypical agents and spies that have been run dry by other franchises, but they manage to take that and use that to their own advantage which does the exact opposite of pushing the audience away.

Taron Egerton, who plays 'Eggsy', was an unknown actor to me, but his was easily the best performance in the film. He even outshone Michael Caine with ease, and added something to the film that made it more appealing to people like me. I'm sure others would agree is I said Kingsman wouldn't be such a great and epic film if he wasn't cast for the role.

Kingsman, head-exploding, body-slicing, pug-loving, umbrella-spinning, happy-mealing epicness. Oh, did I forget to mention, Samuel L. Jackson was one of the best villains presented on-screen in years. I'd like to think he would be the sort-of villain I would be if I ever decided to take up the profession. I mean, once you sit down in that cinema, and that legend walks on screen, you know that this is going to be a great film.

One thing that I took away from this film isn't anything sentimental it's... when is JB the Pug's independent film being released? He stole the show. Best performance. I smell an Oscar.
