Kingsman: Review

Again, another amazing film. I first walked into the cinema not expecting much. Honestly, I was thinking 'Wow, another spy film. Probably another rip-off of James Bond'. But, apparently I was wrong. I know I'm probably going to be hunted down for saying this, but this was much better than any Bond film I've ever seen.

It managed to be hilarious and heartwarming within the space of 30 seconds. Something very few films have managed to do without the audience's emotional response seeming forced or false. The characters are presented in the ingenious way of immediately telling the audience that, yes, they are stereotypical agents and spies that have been run dry by other franchises, but they manage to take that and use that to their own advantage which does the exact opposite of pushing the audience away.

Taron Egerton, who plays 'Eggsy', was an unknown actor to me, but his was easily the best performance in the film. He even outshone Michael Caine with ease, and added something to the film that made it more appealing to people like me. I'm sure others would agree is I said Kingsman wouldn't be such a great and epic film if he wasn't cast for the role.

Kingsman, head-exploding, body-slicing, pug-loving, umbrella-spinning, happy-mealing epicness. Oh, did I forget to mention, Samuel L. Jackson was one of the best villains presented on-screen in years. I'd like to think he would be the sort-of villain I would be if I ever decided to take up the profession. I mean, once you sit down in that cinema, and that legend walks on screen, you know that this is going to be a great film.

One thing that I took away from this film isn't anything sentimental it's... when is JB the Pug's independent film being released? He stole the show. Best performance. I smell an Oscar.
